Badminton kingpin Jack Purcell was good. So good in fact, that onetime tire company B.F. Goodrich gave him a signature shoe back in the mid ’30s. His iconic design, with it’s forefoot ‘smile’, transcended Jack’s career post-retirement, becoming a performance tennis piece too, and Converse snapped up the rights to make the shoe in the ’70s. It’s another classic that refuses to age. Periodically these become hard-to-obtain in certain colours, but supplies have been pretty plentiful lately, and these canvas versions are perfect.
An American comfy classic
